Geno Washington and The Ram Jam Band, Sounds Force 5 and Zoot Money have been confirmed as the first three acts for the 2017 Spalding Beer and Music Festival.
The three acts return to Spalding for the 50th anniversary of the legendary 1967 Bar-b-que Festival.
Geno Washington and The Ram Jam Bank
Initially stationed in England for the Air Force during the early ’60s, American soul shouter Geno Washington fronted a British group known as the Ram Jam Band for a series of UK chart hits during 1966-1967.
Sounds Force 5
One of the most popular 60’s groups in the East of England Region. The band played all around Spalding and South Lincolnshire, and went on to become outright winners of the East of England Battle of the Bands, which was judged by Van Morrison.
One of the biggest characters on the British rhythm and blues scene since the early 1960s, Zoot Money was born George Bruno Money on 17 July 1942 in Bournemouth, Dorset, England. Today Zoot’s huge talent continues to bring his own blend of experience and fun to entertain and amuse you. He’s out on the road and ready to continue his affair with R&B.
Bar-b-que has been recognised as the World’s very first Rock Festival, years before the likes of Woodstock or Glastonbury – with acts on the bill including legendary artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and Cream.
Held at Spalding Tulip Bulb Auction Hall – classed by many as little more than a ‘hot shed’ – the venue was completely sold out and packed to the rafters – as Hendrix, Floyd and Cream had all shot to fame just prior to the event.
Festival chairman Sam Nundy said: “Getting these three acts is a great coup. Bar-b-que ’67 was a hugely significant event in Spalding’s history and with next year being the 50th anniversary, we’re thrilled to have them playing. It’s a great start to our planning of what we are sure will be another great Beer and Music Festival.”
